After jumping through numerous hoops and walking/bus-ing/taxi-ing all over town to make our paperwork correct, we finally were able to register with the federal police yesterday! Jason carried the bulk of this burden, but was nicely rewarded when one of the slightly stern policewomen complemented him on his good Portuguese. Even Eli was fingerprinted, and we give hearty kudos to the nice lady who had enough patience to deal with our squirmy, nap-deprived 11.5 month old, who wanted nothing more than to crawl around on the dirty floor and pull on all the computer cords. They gave us temporary ID cards (we'll get our permanent ones in a few months) and we're formally, legitimately living in Brazil for the next 7-ish months. YAY!
We also moved to our new apartment on Monday evening and are enjoying our new space, locale and view... more pictures to come soon.
